All changes will be reflected on our website: http://bpe5thgrade.weebly.com/calendar.html. We are so excited for these hardworking kiddos!! There is lots to celebrate :) Thank you for all that you do! If your child is interested in participating in the talent show, please have him/her complete the attached form. Please contact Rachel Steinberg, Mitch Schieffer, Leslie Bennett, or Naomi Farber with any questions. Proof of residency must be submitted by new kindergarten, rising 6th graders and rising 9th grade students. This year, EISD is trying to help out by sending a team to each school to make it easier for parents to have an opportunity to get this done. The team will be at BPE this coming Monday and Tuesday from 7am until 3pm. Please see the district communication below. Thank you!
Please direct questions to Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jeff Arnett, [email protected] or (512) 732-9020. ----------------------------------- Dear Parents/Guardians of Current 5th- and 8th-Graders: Eanes ISD requires legal proof of residency for all current families of students transitioning into both 6th- and 9th-grades. This is a mandatory step to confirm and complete the student’s enrollment for the upcoming school year. School districts throughout the greater Austin area routinely require resident families to verify where a student lives every day to ensure only those who legally reside full-time within the school district boundaries have access to Eanes ISD’s excellent educational resources provided by local tax revenues (unless an out-of-district family has formerly applied for transfer status). Eanes ISD will provide simple in-person opportunities to submit original legal documentation verifying current residency BEFORE the 2019-20 school year begins. Remember, this is only for resident families of current 5th- and 8th-Graders. Please attend one of the convenient walk-in opportunities located at each elementary and middle school during the month of April. You do not have to go to your child's home school to verify residency if the designated days there are not convenient for your schedule. Residency verification can be completed at any campus. HOWEVER, residency verification is mandatory for all current 5th- and 8th-Grade resident students and must be completed before the end of April to confirm your child's enrollment for the 2019-20 school year. These are the available schools, dates and times:
This requirement does not apply to out-of-district transfer students or Eanes ISD employee transfer students. These groups are reviewed separately under additional guidelines. Please direct questions to Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jeff Arnett, [email protected] or (512) 732-9020. Monday, March 4th at 1:00 p.m.! Parents, please login to your Family Access account to verify that your student will be returning to Eanes ISD (even fifth graders moving up to middle school). Even if you know you will not be returning to Eanes ISD, please indicate that as well. Completing this process lets all Eanes ISD schools know whether to hold a place for your child and that your child should be placed in a class for next year. All students will be flying kites during their PE class on March 13th (C Day), 14th (A Day) or 15th (B Day)! Parents are invited to come and fly kites with their child, but are asked not to bring younger siblings, strollers or pets! Please park in front of the school (in designated parking spaces) or at Riverbend (not by the field in order to reduce traffic). You can meet your child out on the field after checking in with the front office. We will come outside to the soccer field after some brief instructions. Please take your child’s kite home with you after we are done flying! Kites have been purchased by the Booster Club for every student! Kites will be distributed to your child’s class before their Kite Day. Students will use these kites only, please do not bring other kites from home! The teachers (along with their classroom buddies for the younger grades) will help put together the kites. They will be ready to go for kite day! We hope that the weather cooperates, but if kite flying is not possible during a class we will play games in the gym instead. Please do not call the office to see if kite day has been cancelled! Kite days will not be rescheduled. Students may only attend the kite day for their PE class. Please do not ask to participate with another group due to your child's absence on their assigned kite day. Look at the schedule below for your child’s Kite Day! March 13th~C Day. To find out more information, please visit:
http://hcmscounseling.weebly.com/5th-to-6th-grade.html. Our fifth graders will take a short field trip to Hill Country Middle School on Wednesday, January 30th to get a peek at some of the fun things that will happen next year at HCMS. Nothing is required of parents for this field trip. The information is intended to help you with scheduling purposes only.
In addition, on Wednesday, February 13th, the HCMS counselors will visit us in our homerooms at BPE to help the students begin scheduling their HCMS Fine Arts selection (choir, band, and orchestra). You and your child will also choose which level of language arts class s/he will take next year (6th grade or Pre-AP 6th). The attached checklist is a useful tool when determining the best fit for your child. Actual leveled math course selections happen later on in the school year. Your teachers will be in touch with you late in the school year to determine placement in math. Note: We are aware that there are children planning to attend schools other than HCMS next year. We still plan for these kids to attend the field trip and schedule electives that will be effective until they are officially withdrawn from EISD at the end of the school year. Science Mill - https://www.sciencemill.org/
Our next field trip is scheduled for Friday, February 15th at Science Mill. Students will have the opportunity to explore over 50 hands-on exhibits at the museum in small groups with their chaperone. The cost for this field trip, $6.25, is to be paid online using Skyward Family Access. Please note that you cannot pay using Chrome or your mobile devices. We would love to invite 5 parents per homeroom to chaperone and to assist with transporting the student lunches to Science Mill. Chaperones will need to be able to commit to a full-day field trip, and will be responsible for leading a small group through the exhibits. The best part - chaperones get to join us for free! Please email your child's homeroom teacher if you are available! On the day of the trip, students should arrive to school at the normal time with a completely disposable sack lunch. No backpacks are needed this day. We will load the school buses at approximately 8:30 and return before the regular school day dismissal time.

Students will be dismissed at 11:45am - No lunch will be served. -------------------------- Brown Santa is a community service program of the Travis County Sheriff’s office. Brown Santa started in 1981 with a few deputies helping about 25 families in the unincorporated areas of Travis County. The need for this program has grown over the years. Brown Santa depends on the generosity of individuals, groups and businesses to provide items for the people in need.
Beginning Monday, December 3rd and through Thursday, December 20th, the 5th grade will be collecting donations. There will be a collection bin located at the end of the 5th grade hallway. This, of course, is optional. In addition to non perishable food items, Brown Santa gives toys to each child in the family from age 0-16. Donations of new books, puzzles, stuffed animals and toys are needed for every age group. All donations need to be new and unwrapped. Suggested items include:
For more information on the Brown Santa Program, go to www.brownsanta.org As tough as it is to finish a really good book, we are excited to announce that we will be wrapping up our first read aloud, Home of the Brave, just before the Thanksgiving break. We are excited because finishing a book also means that we get to start our next read aloud - Hello Universe! Hello, Universe, by Newbery Medalist Erin Entrada Kelly, is a funny and poignant story about unexpected friendships. Told from four intertwining points of view—two boys and two girls—this novel celebrates bravery, being different, and finding your inner bayani (hero).
Since we will be using this story to study annotation, every student will need his/her own personal copy of the book. Please make sure your child has his/her book in class by Monday, November 26th. You have a few purchasing options:
We highly recommend purchasing the book through Scholastic, as it’s not only the cheapest option, but it will also be delivered directly to school. If interested, please follow the steps below. Please note: if you do not place your order by next Thursday, November 15th, you will have to purchase through Amazon or a local bookstore. Scholastic Instructions:
Please reach out to Ms. Steinberg ([email protected]) or Mrs. Bennett ([email protected]) with any questions!
